The characters also needed a lot of fleshing out because they’re all just boring. An actual plot would have been nice, not just one long set up to a plot. I didn’t really care about him because I don’t feel like I actually learned anything about him.īastion could have been interesting if it were a hell of a lot shorter and made better use of the page count. I also kept misreading the main character’s name as Scorchio instead of Scorio and if you get that reference, congratulations, you’re as old as I am. It’s one very long book with nothing really happening. There’s a training session, then another training session, then a time skip, then another training session until the main character moves onto training school and then he fights in a gauntlet… then another gauntlet… then another one. It’s a shame too because it started so well, and the synopsis makes it sound awesome but it quickly devolves from something intriguing into a book of non-stop training sessions and gauntlet battles with very little in between. Bastion is a book which is too long and with too little character development. This won’t be a very long review because I don’t have a lot to say. For only then will he learn about his forgotten past, and why his enemies have rightly feared him since the day he was reborn. To emerge from the ruins and within those golden walls defeat his elite classmates in a quest to ascend the ranks and change the course of history.
